It has been over fifty years since...
It has been over fifty years since I found Christian Science. It changed the world for me. From childhood I had resented and rebelled against a God who could have created man incapable of being sick or sinful but did not.
After I was grown a great grief was added to the resentment and rebellion. A friend dear to me was instantly killed while engaged in a project that was to benefit many people. I was certain that God had the power to protect one doing a useful work but that He did not use that power.
These mental states, aggravated by a heavy teaching load, led to a complete physical breakdown. I had excellent medical care, but the verdict eventually was that I would never again be able to do sustained work; that I had exhausted all my reserve nervous energy, so there was nothing left to build on. I spent some time in a sanatorium, then in a high altitude, and finally moved to another state for outdoor living.
