Giving a Christian Science Lecture

Informing the Community

[This is the third of four addresses given at the meeting in the Extension of The Mother Church on June 5, 1963. The last address will appear next week.]

In Romans, Paul asks the pertinent question, "How shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?" (10:14.) John the Baptist's important role of preparing the way for the coming of the Christ-idea is set forth in Mark as follows: "Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee" (1:2). These citations illustrate the need and the importance of preparing the way—letting the community know of the coming of a Christian Science lecture.

Those responsible for informing the public, publishing the glad tidings, and this includes all the branch church members, will wish to think prayerfully of the mission and purpose of the lecture and who it is that is to be reached. Jesus encouraged his disciples to preach the gospel to the receptive thought. In today's world the receptive thought may well include those who are sincerely interested in leading normal, purposeful lives: workers, students, teachers, homemakers, and professional people.
