Went down (Luke 10:30)
Travelers from Jerusalem to Jericho went down in a literal sense, for Jerusalem is some twenty-four hundred feet above the level of the Mediterranean, while Jericho, although but about twenty miles distant, lies in the valley of the Jordan, about nine hundred feet below sea level. The road connecting the two cities passes through a rocky and dangerous gorge all too often still the scene of deeds of violence.
