Metaphysical Science

Physical science declares matter to be its basis. Metaphysical, or Christian, Science declares Spirit, God, to be its basis. Both are concerned with right information about creation. Physical science searches for what in its frame of reference is true of the material universe. Metaphysical Science reveals what is true of the spiritual universe—the kingdom of God, which, Jesus said, is at hand. Physical science investigates the temporal. Metaphysical Science demonstrates the eternal. In both, forces, or laws, which are invisible, are studied.

Physical science deals with the so-called forces of matter, harnessing them, controlling them, classifying them, measuring them, and developing them to new proportions and uses. But physical science cannot explain what these forces are. Strangely enough, metaphysical Science does explain them as a form of mortal mind, or material consciousness.

Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 484): "What are termed natural science and material laws are the objective states of mortal mind. The physical universe expresses the conscious and unconscious thoughts of mortals. Physical force and mortal mind are one."
