Nothing Is "Impossible"

[Of Special Interest to Juniors]

Jill has used her understanding of Christian Science many times to prove that all good is possible for those who turn to God for help. At one time she wanted very much to be in her school orchestra. Her friends were in the orchestra, and they all had lots of fun together at rehearsals. Finally there was a need for a pianist, and Jill was going to try out for the place. She had been waiting for this opening for almost two years and had been practicing every day. However, when the time came she felt fearful. There were others trying out who had been taking piano lessons for many years, and everyone was saying it would be hard for the music teacher to decide who was the best one to fill the vacancy.

Have you ever been tempted to say about some situation you were facing: "It's impossible. There's no sense in trying; I'm just not good enough"? At such times it is well to remember that Christ Jesus rebuked this kind of negative thinking when he said (Luke 18:27), "The things which are impossible with men are possible with God."

Jesus did not mean that all things are possible with God but not possible for man. Mrs. Eddy states in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 183), "Man is God's image and likeness; whatever is possible to God, is possible to man as God's reflection." It is when we believe ourselves to be mortals, thinking, acting, and living separately from God, that we lose contact with omnipotence and fear that something is impossible.
