"Walk in the Spirit"
"Today the blandishments of materialism render it more necessary than ever that we be alert"
Established patterns of human behavior demand that we conform to them if we are to be considered socially normal. It is a mortal tendency blindly to mimic these patterns so that we may feel a sense of belonging. Thus children without the guidance of divine Principle grow up imitating the behavior of their elders or associates who make an impression upon them, good or bad. According to Christian Science, the earlier in human experience we learn to focus our thoughts habitually on divine Principle, God, as the architect of our behavior, the sooner we shall discover that conformity to anything not based on Principle is the result of mesmerism.
