Prayer in Christian Science

"Anything recognized in prayer as a falsity
loses its seeming reality "

It is not uncommon to hear testifiers at Wednesday testimony meetings remark: "I prayed as we are taught in Christian Science," or, "We worked as Christian Science teaches us." When the writer was a young student of this Science such statements were not sufficient to satisfy his desire. He wanted to know how to pray, or work, effectively. He wanted specific information on the steps to be followed and examples. As he progressed in his study, some of the aspects of this praying, or working, unfolded to him.

Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health that we should argue against the error confronting us and maintain man's perfection as vigorously as we would plead a case in court. Elsewhere in this book she speaks of reasoning from cause to effect and of right reasoning. Since pleading, or arguing, in court is an effort to convince the court of the truth of one's side, it reasonably follows that prayer, or work, in Christian Science may also include a process of reasoning by which one establishes the truth in one's consciousness.
