I became curious about Christian Science because my pastor criticized it during one of his sermons. The remarks he made did not correspond with what I had seen of the lives of several people whom I knew to be Christian Scientists.

A friend gave me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and of the Quarterly and showed me how the Bible Lesson from the Quarterly was to be studied each day. I was also given a copy of The Christian Science Journal and several copies of the Sentinel. I read them through very carefully, but certainly did not understand very much of what I read. However, I did not intend to give up.

For the next few months I spent hours each day reading and studying. I think I must have read all the authorized books on Christian Science. Gradually its teachings became clearer until one day I knew I had found the truth that Jesus spoke of when he said (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
