About sixteen years ago, soon...

About sixteen years ago, soon after I had become interested in Christian Science, I met with an accident which nearly destroyed my hearing. I could hear only faintly unless the person speaking to me talked very loud. My husband, who is not a Christian Scientist, called in a physician. When the treatment the physician gave me was not effective, he advised that I visit an ear specialist. The specialist said that both my eardrums had burst. He doubted I would ever hear better and predicted that as I grew older the deafness would become worse.

I thereupon realized that Christian Science was the only thing that could heal me. On my way home from the specialist's office I called on a practitioner, who readily assured me that true hearing, being a spiritual faculty of God, divine Mind, cannot be lost, and that man, who reflects God, possesses the faculties of God. A passage of Mary Baker Eddy's which proved helpful to me at this time is found on page 485 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and reads: "Science declares that Mind, not matter, sees, hears, feels, speaks. Whatever contradicts this statement is the false sense, which ever betrays mortals into sickness, sin, and death."

The practitioner requested that I study the current Lesson-Sermon, outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, which I readily agreed to do. Within a week's time my hearing was as good as ever, and it has been so ever since.
