About nine years ago, when we...

About nine years ago, when we were living in California a combination of circumstances arose which rendered my husband and me very unhappy. Then two things happened: my husband remembered his small Service Edition of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy which had lain in an old suitcase for almost twenty-five years, and I met a Christian Scientist.

This individual beautifully exemplified her religion by expressing peace, confidence, and love. She lent me copies of the Sentinel, which I read with avid interest and increasing respect as I rode on the bus to my work as a nurse in a hospital in a neighboring town. At night I would read and ponder Science and Health, especially the chapter on Prayer.

On page 570 Mrs. Eddy writes, "Millions of unprejudiced minds—simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert—are waiting and watching for rest and drink." I was one of the weary wanderers truly athirst, and how I appreciated that wonderful Truth!
