When becoming interested in...

When becoming interested in Christian Science, I first went to the Wednesday evening testimony meetings and there became convinced that Science is a practical religion. Eagerly I looked forward to attending my first Sunday morning service. At the close of it, I was greatly inspired by the reading of the passage from the third chapter of I John which is read at every Sunday service. The passage includes these words (verse 2): "Beloved, now are we the sons of God."

On leaving the church, I felt that this was the most joyous statement that I had ever heard in a church, and I reasoned that if Christian Science teaches that we are children of God now and do not have to get old and sick and die to experience the blessings which I felt must go with this understanding, I certainly wanted to learn more of it. Of course, I did not understand what it meant to know oneself as a child of God; but instinctively I knew it was good, and I was sure that it involved a blessing.

Several years ago I experienced a healing which confirmed my faith. A painful inflammatory condition developed in one knee. Help through prayer was received from a practitioner of Christian Science, but for several days I contented myself with being able to perform my household chores. Then one evening the pain became intense, and I called the practitioner again before retiring.
