AN UNDERSTANDING HEART

Should one's offense, another's scorn,
Plant in my heart a pricking thorn;
And I in judgment strive to seek
Retaliating words to speak,
Oh, let me follow wisdom's way
And humbly to our Father pray,
"Give me—in mercy's, love's, accord—
An understanding heart, dear Lord."
