My first healing in Christian Science...
My first healing in Christian Science occurred in 1907. My mother-in-law gave me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I had at that time a split lower lip which was proving difficult to heal. So after reading many things in Science and Health, I decided I must examine my thinking and talking more carefully than I had been in the habit of doing to see if I was harboring wrong thoughts.
I made a very thorough study of "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of Science and Health, which begins: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter." I filled my thoughts also with love. Then I suddenly realized the truth that there can be no split between man and God, who is Love. It was as though a great light had dawned on me. Later I examined myself in the mirror and saw that the lip was wholly healed. There was no sign of a split.
I live in the Colorado Rockies at an altitude of eighty-six hundred feet. We have a great deal of snow, and I usually operate a tractor to keep the outlet road clear. And this is not easy to do. The entrance to the mountain cabin is on a 6 percent grade, and it becomes covered with ice.
