More than forty years ago I received an instantaneous healing after reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. As a young woman I was not strong in health and suffered much of the time. Doctors were unable to agree upon a diagnosis, one of them saying that an operation was necessary. This I refused to have. It was then that a friend asked me if I would read the textbook. I agreed to do this, and the book was lovingly brought to me.

One day, when I was quite ill and discouraged, I asked that the book be brought to my bed. I opened it to the chapter entitled "Christian Science Practice" and began to read. I became so interested that I did not realize how fast the time had passed until my husband came home for dinner. It was then I knew that I was well. I told my husband that I had never felt better. As I had read, I had acknowledged the truths of the statements contained in the book. Later when I was visiting a Christian Science practitioner, she explained that my healing was the result of my receptivity to the Christ, Truth. I began to understand the words of the Bible and to apply them in my daily life.

I have experienced many other healings since then through the application of Christian Science. One of them was that of arthritis. Four years ago, after the passing on of a loved one, I became ill, and for a few days it was thought that I would not recover. However, through the prayers of a practitioner, I rallied but then became ill with arthritis. It was with severe pain that I moved in bed; but I refused to listen to the voice of material sense, and each day I got out of bed and walked in my room, though I did so with difficulty. The practitioner was faithful and kind, leaving me much spiritual food for thought after her daily call.
