Church Dedications

Xenia Gazette

Xenia, Ohio (Society).

On Sunday, September 24, 1961, Christian Science Society, Xenia, will dedicate its church edifice. Special services to which the public is cordially invited will be held at 11:00 o'clock in the morning and at 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon. The church edifice is located at the southwest corner of High and Chestnut Streets. This society was recognized as a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on February 17, 1956. It is always a requirement that a Christian Science church be free of debt before the edifice may be dedicated.

In 1944 a small group of students of Christian Science felt the need for services in this area. They first met in a room in one of the Xenia Hotel Apartments and decided to become an informal group and hold regular Sunday morning services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings. The first public Sunday service and Sunday School were held in Junior Hall at 26 South Detroit Street on February 27, 1944. In January, 1945, this group moved to a residence at 29 West Market Street where they remained until moving to the present location. Here they established and maintained a Reading Room which was open to the public.
