Where Does Evil Come From?
Asking the above question is much like asking, Where does ignorance come from? We all know that ignorance is a negation, the opposite of understanding or the absence of it. But we are not so sure that evil is but a negation, the absence of good or the opposite of it.
Ignorance disappears in the presence of understanding, as darkness is displaced by light. Light is positive. A ray of light can be projected into a dark room. But it is impossible to project a ray of darkness into a light room. Whoever heard of a ray of darkness?
When evil is seen to be of the same nature as ignorance and darkness, it will no longer deceive us. And let us make no mistake about it, deception would induce us to accord to evil—a negation—the power to limit, oppose, or overcome good.
