The human mind without the discipline of Christian Science regrets or longs for a past, fears or feverishly anticipates a future, and avoids today. It re-enacts past experiences and pores over memories with nostalgia; or it roams through a dreamland future and carries on imaginary conversations, repeating many of them over and over like a tenacious popular tune.
