Announcement

The Christian Science Board of Directors announces the election of Carl J. Welz, C. S. B., of San Francisco, California, as Associate Editor of The Christian Science Journal, the Christian Science Sentinel, and The Herald of Christian Science, effective August 1, 1961.

Mr. Welz is a graduate of San Jose State College, San Jose, California, where he received the degree of B. A., and of Teachers College, Columbia University, where he received an M. A. degree. His major interests were in education, music, and speech, and he engaged in educational activities for some years.

Mr. Welz has been a student of Christian Science from an early age. During World War II he served as Squadron Commander (Major AUS). Later, for five years, he was on active duty as a chaplain in the Air Force. Mr. Welz first engaged in the public practice of Christian Science in 1941, and since 1947 he has given full time to this work as a practitioner listed in the Journal. He has served the Cause of Christian Science as Reader in a college Organization, as a member of the executive board of his branch church and in other capacities, and as First Reader in Ninth Church of Christ, Scientist, San Francisco, California, of which he has been a member since 1947. Mr. Welz joined The Mother Church in 1932. He received Primary class instruction in 1937 and was a member of the Normal class in the Board of Education in 1958, after which he became a teacher of Christian Science. Mr. Welz will continue to hold his classes and conduct the meetings of the association of his pupils in San Francisco, California.
