RADIO PROGRAM No. 415 - How to Understand the Bible

SPEAKER: It seems many people feel they can't understand the Bible. Others value it merely as literature or history. But its meaning becomes clearer when it is recognized that the Bible, spiritually understood, sets forth the true nature of all that pertains to God and the man of His creating.

The value of the Bible and a spiritual understanding of its healing message had to be gained by our guest, Frederick Lesh, of Whittier, California. Please tell us something of the thoughts you'd had of the Bible, Mr. Lesh.

MR. LESH: Actually, I wasn't even remotely interested in the Bible, at least not until I was faced with a crippling condition. I had a spinal difficulty that had been getting progressively worse. I'd had several serious attacks and all sorts of treatment. Things came to a head one day while I was playing touch football with my children. There was a catch in my back some way, and it laid me flat on the ground. I managed to crawl into the house, and my wife helped me to bed. Several days later I had a medical examination and was told I had spinal arthritis. The X ray showed a malformation on the spine. And an operation involving a bone graft was recommended; but I was told this would leave my back rigid and wouldn't stop the condition from spreading. So I decided against it. Frankly, I was scared. Here I was, right in the prime of life, faced with semi-invalidism. Finally I couldn't carry on my normal activities and had to stay in bed.
