"Be not afraid"

[Of Special Interest to Children]

There was a shiny new bicycle beside the tree on Christmas morning. Jim had wanted a bicycle for so long, and now there it stood!

Late in the afternoon he and his father took it outside. When he got on it, the ground seemed so far below him that it was hard not to be afraid. However, with his father's hands steadying the bicycle, Jim felt safe.

In a few days Jim started to ride by himself. But when he thought that there was no one holding him, he became fearful and fell. He tried several more times to ride alone, but each time he ended by falling off the bicycle.
