When Christian Science first...
When Christian Science first came to my notice I was in a sorry plight, having experienced two attacks of rheumatic fever while I was under the age of ten and another in my late teens.
Life as I knew it was a continual struggle, but I kept on with the hope of better things to come. Finally a severe nervous breakdown was experienced, which doctors could do nothing to help in spite of their sincere efforts. One hospital after another which I visited for various treatments did little to relieve my suffering. I had become helpless and had almost given up hope when a friend who called recommended Christian Science.
I knew nothing of it, but at once obtained a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and started to read it. I also called a Christian Science practitioner, who began to pray for me. The spiritual meaning of the ninety-first Psalm was explained to me, and I began at once to improve and was able to walk about again. What a joy it was to have a new understanding of Life opening up! My improvement, though slow, was continuous for several years. I joined The Mother Church and a branch church.
