Signs of the Times
The Reverend Alvin J. Forry of the United Church of Christ in The Central News-Herald Perkasie, Pennsylvania
"It is time to wake up to reality. Every day brings God's salvation nearer. The night is nearly over, the Day has almost dawned" (Romans 13:11, 12, J. B. Phillips' translation) ... We are often so engrossed with what is wrong with the world that we come to think of its troubles and tribulations as the only reality. Yes, "it is time to wake up to reality."
What is reality? All this fuss and worry and trouble of the world? No, certainly not. We know quite well that it will soon pass away. What then is reality? Is it not the spiritual world, the things of the Spirit and of the kingdom of God? It is time to turn from this vain world, and wake up to the reality of the kingdom of God. But, you say, how can one be conscious of anything else but this turbulent world? It beats upon our souls, and tears our hearts to pieces. It casts a spell over us, and holds us in its thrall, so that we are actually asleep to reality. What is wrong with us?
