With the advent of Sputnik, the layman's interest in space travel moved from the realm of science fiction to that of fact and fast-approaching accomplishment. Where formerly the space cadet of science fiction was treated at best with amused toleration, he is now accorded considerable respect. To today's young people, well informed as most of them are on the potentialities of space travel, the successful launching of earth satellites and the prognostications of space travel come as no great surprise.
