WHY DO I PRAY?
Is
it for healing that I pray?
More ease in flesh? Relief from pain?
Do I ask pardon for my sins
While hoping for material gain?
Am I engrossed in personal sense,
Where self comprises all most dear?
Then it is likely that my prayer
Will never reach the omnipotent ear.
But if my motive is to grow
In understanding and to learn
More of God and of His man,
If for the truth my heart would yearn,
Setting aside all sense of self,
Then surely God will hear my voice.
He will reveal Himself to me
In healing love. I shall rejoice!
