I came into Christian Science...
I came into Christian Science after I witnessed the healing of an aunt who had been walking with the aid of crutches for several years. The doctors, who said they could offer her no hope, called the condition white swelling. She turned to Christian Science, and in a very short time after a practitioner had started prayerful metaphysical work, the condition vanished, the crutches were discarded, and she was able to walk without the slightest discomfort.
Although I was not conscious of any need of healing, I decided to investigate Christian Science and was a frequent visitor to a Reading Room. My aunt had called my attention to "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of Science and Health, and I memorized it.
I had always been subject to hiccuping, which I was generally able to alleviate by drinking a certain quantity of water. One day when I was taking a short cut by car through the country, over a sandy road, in an area that looked like a desert, I began to hiccup. Obviously no water was to be had. Similar spells had been so violent that when they were prolonged, soreness in my chest had soon developed.
