One day I was stricken in the region of the heart with a pain that was so severe that I could hardly get to the telephone to call a practitioner. She kindly and firmly declared the truth audibly for some minutes and then asked me to say the Lord's Prayer as she repeated its spiritual interpretation given on pages 16 and 17 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
At first I could not say it, for the pain was so great that I could not think clearly and could not seem to rejoice at the opportunity to prove the power of God. I kept hoping that she would continue talking to me until my thought lifted above the false sense of heart. But she very firmly requested again that I pray the Lord's Prayer. I began to do so.
The thought then came to me, "I will honor my Father by not letting fear take possession of my thinking." Then, as if it were my own voice talking, the angel message came: "This is the prayer Jesus prayed. Our Father is right here with me now, just as He was with Jesus; His grace is all-sufficient even as it was when Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead." We went through the prayer and its interpretation to the concluding affirmation:
