"WE MUST REVERSE OUR FEEBLE FLUTTERINGS"

A Heartfelt desire to do God's will under all circumstances will do much toward stabilizing our daily living.

On page 262 of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, is this arresting statement: "We cannot fathom the nature and quality of God's creation by diving into the shallows of mortal belief. We must reverse our feeble flutterings—our efforts to find life and truth in matter—and rise above the testimony of the material senses, above the mortal to the immortal idea of God. These clearer, higher views inspire the Godlike man to reach the absolute centre and circumference of his being."

The stanch Christian warrior, Paul, advised (I Cor. 15:58), "Be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord." One marvels at times at the steadfastness expressed by someone under circumstances of great stress. In such an instance the divine shines through the human and eclipses for the moment the human. What appears to human sense to be changeableness and fluctuation is the clouding over by the mortal sense, temporarily hiding the real, the divine or spiritual sense.
