Christian Science has meant...
Christian Science has meant everything to me for over thirty years. I first became interested in it in 1924 after I had been sick for about two years with indigestion. I had been treated by three doctors, and they had prescribed many different medicines, as well as diets, exercises, and visits to mineral wells. All of these prescriptions I carried out to the letter. Instead of getting better, I gradually became worse. Finally the doctors decided that medicine would not help me, and they advised an operation.
I had the operation, but I soon realized that I was no better. In fact, the same trouble returned. Since I wanted desperately to live, I prayed to God to show me what I should do. The thought came to me, Why not try Christian Science?
I wrote to my sister, who I knew was a student of this Science, asking her if she thought this religion would do me any good, and if she thought so, would she tell me how to go about learning of it. She answered immediately and assured me that Science could heal me. She told me to go to a Christian Science Reading Room and purchase a copy of the textbook, Science and Health, and she also recommended that I visit a Christian Science practitioner.
