Havens of Healing Activity
Christian Science Reading Rooms are havens of spiritual activity, because they are making available to the public the authorized books and periodicals of Christian Science, with their healing, comforting, and redeeming message. The very atmosphere of these rooms attracts those whose thought is ready for the liberating teaching of this religion. They provide for many receptive hearts in a busy world a place for communion with God, as well as for gaining a better understanding of Him.
This is borne out in the experience of a librarian who writes: "The tender, healing attraction of the Christ, Truth, as set forth in the Bible and the writings of our beloved Leader, has brought into the Reading Room a number of people faced with the threat of surgical operations. Others have come, laboring under the mesmerism of sorrow, disease, drugs, alcohol. All were comforted and given some measure of renewed hope and courage. The spiritual fact, counter to whatever the material senses may present, is always at hand to dispel the gloom of fear and discouragement. The honest inquirer is led to the authorized books and periodicals in which he may find for himself the spiritual help he needs and be blessed with its resultant healing effects. Thus is the purpose of a Reading Room fulfilled."
