THE ANGELS OF HIS PRESENCE

"The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them" (Ps. 34:7). What assurance, comfort, and spiritual strength are found in this promise of the Psalmist!

Many times in human experience one is confronted with a distressing situation. If at such a time one were told that the bane could be changed into a blessing by understanding that the angel of the Lord is present to deliver him, he might be skeptical. But the experienced Christian Scientist would have no such skepticism, for he has proved again and again that the angels of God's presence and power lead one out of his difficulties into complete freedom.

On page 581 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy defines "angels" thus: "God's thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect; the inspiration of goodness, purity, and immortality, counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality." These angels bring assurance of God's all-inclusiveness and counteract the belief that evil has origin, substance, power, ability to act or to be. Then we cannot be made afraid.
