Church Dedications

Lancaster, California (First Church).

The dedication services of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Lancaster, California, at Fern Avenue and Milling Street, will he held on Sunday at 11 a.m. and at 3 p.m.

Christian Scientists of this community first met in a private home in 1917 to read the Lesson-Sermons, outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly. Increased attendance created the need for more room, and meetings were transferred to a hall. In January, 1924, Christian Science Society, Lancaster, was recognized officially by The Christian Science Board of Directors as a branch of The Mother Church.

A church building at 915 Date Avenue was purchased in 1926. Dedication services ... were held on June 14, 1931. In May, 1937, the society became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Lancaster.

Lots were purchased in 1946 for the purpose of building a new edifice at the present location; the church was incorporated in 1947; the new edifice was begun in May, 1952; and the first services were held in it on March 8, 1953.
