OVERCOMING THE LAST ENEMY

God is Life, and He is man's only true source of being. Since God is eternal, that which He creates is also eternal. A basic Biblical truth emphasized in Christian Science is the eternal perfection and continuity of God and of man, His reflection. Nothing can reduce being to anything inferior to that which God ordains for it. Nothing can destroy or harm real being in any respect. This truth understood is demonstrable.

Failure to understand and to apply the fundamental truths of divine Science has a deleterious effect on human experience. To believe that sin, disease, or death has a place in the life of man impresses these errors on the human system; whereas the opposite understanding that life and being are eternal serves as a divine influence which tends to harmonize our affairs and to heal the body.

"Life is eternal. We should find this out, and begin the demonstration thereof," writes Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 246). One does not demonstrate eternal existence by expecting it to end or by being fearful of its cessation. One demonstrates Life by consistently holding in thought the immortal facts of eternal Life. To demonstrate it means to bring our thinking into perfect agreement with the spiritual fact that man's life is ever existent in God and hence cannot stop. Life, God, can never die and neither can its manifestation.
