MOTIVE IS IMPORTANT
Problems are not always what they seem to be. Rightly viewed they can be opportunities to rise higher spiritually to the point where man's God-given dominion is recognized and exercised.
Policies and customs geared to yesterday's conditions have a way of becoming quickly outmoded. Changes often occur that affect individuals through no particular fault of their own. Faced with such changes, a Christian Scientist endeavors to meet the situation with right motives and consequently with assurance. He knows that as divine law is fulfilled, one of two things will occur: either the situation will be adjusted satisfactorily or he will be lifted out of it in a right way.
A man who was the head of a department of a large business establishment had just such an experience. The management decided to bring in a man from the outside in an effort to improve a difficult situation. The department head, who had been with the company many years, had the choice of adjusting himself to the new setup in a subordinate position or retiring then and accepting an income considerably less than the one he would have received later.
