I began to study Christian Science with the great desire to find God, to know Him, to hear the voice of Him that invites us to drink of the water of eternal spirituality, to obey Him. At that time I was going through a series of disappointments, sorrows, and moral afflictions, together with many bodily ailments, and these presented a sorry picture of me.

Months before I knew of Christian Science, I suffered a visible affection in the neck; this was diagnosed by a doctor as goiter. He advised me, because of the advanced state of the disease, to have an operation.
