Some years ago, when I was appearing in grand opera, we were giving the opera "Aida" on an outdoor stage. I was to sing the leading role, and this meant three hours of heavy singing and acting.

Just a week before opening night, I had an attack of laryngitis accompanied by high fever. I was terribly frightened, because the time was short, and we had no understudy. I called a Christian Science practitioner for help and spent most of my time studying the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, our beloved Leader.

The time arrived for the performance, and still I could not speak above a whisper. I knew that God is the only power and that I could not be punished for trusting completely in Him.
