KEEPING "ABREAST OF THE TIMES"

In these times, new discoveries are being made in the fields of mathematics, chemistry, and physics. The fields of religion are stirred. Political institutions are in flux. Social lines are changing, forming, and reforming. These are effects, not causes. Matter is yielding to Spirit. The movements of these changing times correspond to humanity's acceptance or rejection of causation as mental and spiritual. Christian Science interprets real causation. Mary Baker Eddy, in addition to her own published writings, wisely established the Christian Science periodicals, which help mankind to understand the changes taking place in the world.

Mrs. Eddy writes in the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. VIII, Sect. 14), "It shall be the privilege and duty of every member who can afford it, to subscribe for the periodicals which are the organs of this Church; and it shall be the duty of the Directors to see that these periodicals are ably edited and kept abreast of the times."

The periodicals are The Christian Science journal. Christian Science Quarterly, Christian Science Sentinel, The Christian Science Monitor, and The Herald of Christian Science, which is published in nine languages and in Braille. Their purpose is to carry the message of Christian Science Mind-healing around the world, to point thought to God as the all-redeeming Principle, and thus to stimulate hope for release from sin, sickness, and all that is mortal. Each periodical carries this message in its own specific and beautiful way.
