NANCY LEARNS TO SWIM

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Nancy had looked forward to summer, for her mother had promised her that when school was out she could take swimming lessons. So when school was out that year, she and two of her playmates started taking lessons at a pool nearby.

It was great fun, and Nancy loved the water. She was not afraid, because as a pupil in the Christian Science Sunday School she had learned to trust God. She knew that she was really God's child and that an understanding of her true self would help her in whatever she was learning to do, whether at school or in the swimming pool.

Nancy and her friends did very well, and by the end of the summer they were ready to try swimming the width of the pool at the five-foot depth, where the water was just over their heads. She and her friends were excited about this test. Nancy took her turn. But when she reached the middle of the pool, she could go no farther. The instructor, seeing that she was in trouble, quickly pulled her out of the water.
