"TO USE BOOKS RIGHTLY"

The editorial page of The Christian Science Monitor frequently carries a small quotation from Ruskin, which endears itself not only to admirers of Ruskin's prose, but to all who love books and seek in the reading of them their full substance. This is the quotation: "To consult with the wisest and the greatest men.... To use books rightly."

Two books are placed before the student of Christian Science, probably the two most widely read books today, namely the Holy Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science enjoins her students to use these books rightly, to read them deeply, to get the full spiritual richness of the meaning of their words.

Mrs. Eddy says of the textbook (Science and Health, p. 147): "Although this volume contains the complete Science of Mind-healing, never believe that you can absorb the whole meaning of the Science by a simple perusal of this book. The book needs to be studied, and the demonstration of the rules of scientific healing will plant you firmly on the spiritual groundwork of Christian Science."
