PETER LEARNS TO SWIM

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Peter lived near a lake and wanted to learn to swim because it looked like such fun when other children did it. He tried very hard, but he just could not put his face into the water or relax enough to stay on top of it.

Peter's mother enrolled him in a two weeks' course of swimming instruction. He attended the classes every day and tried his best. Then, he and his mother would go home, and he would practice what his teacher had taught him while his mother watched and helped. But Peter still felt afraid.

His mother reminded him that God is everywhere, that He is with His child, whether he is on land, in the water, or in the air. Peter repeated with his mother the words of the first verse of a hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal (No. 53):
