Although from the age of eight years I had attended a Christian Science Sunday School, I later went to church only on occasion, and I seldom bothered even to purchase the Christian Science Quarterly, containing the weekly Bible Lessons.

Some years after my marriage I was confronted with a painful claim of bursitis in my arm and shoulder, and I turned to a Christian Science practitioner for help.

The mental uplift that came from this assistance I will always remember with gratitude. Had I then continued to rely wholly upon God, healing surely would have followed. Instead, I looked at the mortal mind picture and listened to the pain and to the fear. The result was that I released the practitioner and turned to a doctor. This kind man did all he could to help me, and after approximately six weeks I gained temporary relief and was able to resume my activities.
