THE GRAIN OF FAITH THAT HEALS

CHRIST JESUS once said (Matt. 17:20), "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." He did not imply that the faith that destroys discord can be a passive quality. Indeed, in a parable, he spoke of the way in which the tiny, dormant mustard seed, when it is sown, produces a treelike herb in whose branches the birds lodge (see Matt. 13:31, 32).

The seed of faith that removes the mountains of discord in human experience must be sown in good soil, in the honest desire to know God and man aright. The seed of faith that heals must be nurtured by the humble prayer in which one asks God to cleanse one's heart of unbelief in His goodness, His greatness, His allness, and to instill in one a willing obedience to the precepts of the Christ.

Such a prayer will enable faith to grow into the understanding of our heavenly Father's will for His children. And this understanding enables us to demonstrate dominion over all the ills of mortality. The grain of faith that has grown into spiritual understanding will heal the sick body, purify the sinful thought, and mend the broken heart.
