The history of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Ashland, began some time prior to 1912.

A group of people interested in Christian Science had been holding meetings on Sunday mornings. ... As the number increased, it was decided to rent a room and organize a Christian Science Society.

In the fall of 1913 a side room, facing Second Avenue West, was acquired on the second floor of Wilmarth Block No. 2. A piano was purchased. The Sunday School was also started at this time. ... Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, Chicago, Illinois, sent copies of the Christian Science Hymnal and later some bound volumes of The Christian Science Journal. A Reading Room was opened...

About a year later, a larger room was needed, and one was rented on the third floor of the same building.

Application for recognition as Christian Science Society, Ashland, Wisconsin was approved by The Christian Science Board of Directors of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on April 15, 1914...

In 1916 the society moved into the old Ashland News Building on the corner of Ellis Avenue and Third Street. This building had an auditorium well suited to the needs of the society. A small room in front of the building was used as a Reading Room...

In 1919 the building committee purchased the building at 107 Ellis Avenue. This was remodeled so as to provide a Reading Room and a Readers' room.

Application for recognition as First Church of Christ, Scientist, Ashland, Wisconsin, was approved by the Directors of The Mother Church on April 11, 1930. ...

The present church edifice, [a] former residence ... was purchased for use as a church in September, 1956. Extensive alterations of the building were made, providing for the auditorium, ... Reading Room, and a salesroom. The Sunday School room and the board room are on the second floor. ...

The Dedication was made possible through the loving help of friends, the Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy, and the Selina C. Cornish Fund.
