INSPIRED CHRISTIAN LIVING
The history of Joseph, the son of the patriarch Jacob and his wife Rachel, offers and excellent example of inspired living and its blessings for mankind. Joseph, the eleventh of twelve sons, was beloved of his father, who presented him with a coat of many colors. Such a gift was an indication that Jacob considered his son as being superior to his other children, for Joseph was the first-born son of Rachel and was regarded by his parents as having been given to them by the intervention of God.
When Joseph was seventeen, he related to his brothers two dreams, in which the brothers, represented by eleven sheaves, as well as by eleven stars, had made obeisance to him. His brothers were so stirred by envy and hatred that they sold Joseph into slavery, and he was taken to Egypt. There, as a slave in his master's household, and later as chief of state to Pharaoh, he gave an example of inspired, Christlike living.
It is evident that in all his thoughts and acts, he looked to God for guidance, behaved himself wisely and manifested many of the glorious elements of the Christ, Truth, the expression of God's nature. His pure affection, integrity, industry, and spiritual discernment blessed all with whom he came in contact. He exemplified Elihu's words to Job (Job 32:8), "There is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding."
