A number of years ago I was...

A number of years ago I was asked to serve on the building committee of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, of which I was then a member. At the time, I was suffering from arthritis. Knowing that this appointment would necessitate quite a bit of walking, I hesitated for a moment. Then I realized that error was trying to prevent me from having this wonderful opportunity to serve in the Christian Science movement; so I accepted.

I had felt that I should work this problem out for myself. I believed, as Mrs. Eddy declares in Science and Health (p. 412): "The power of Christian Science and divine Love is omnipotent. It is indeed adequate to unclasp the hold and to destroy disease, sin, and death."

Each day as I left my home I would repeat hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal and in particular Hymn No. 139, the first line of which reads, "I walk with Love along the way," and I would find that the errand for that day was performed with joy. Before the church building was completed, I was entirely free, and there has never been a return of the difficulty.
