A UNIVERSAL IDEAL

Mankind advance slowly toward an ideal. But the adoption of an ideal makes issues clear and cuts a straight path to realization. Thus it is with The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, whose ideal is the Christ, the expression of God, infinite Love. According to Christian Science, divine Love eternally embraces all individuals in a state of Christly perfection, and because this ideal state is true, it is attainable. Man is Love's expression.

Christian Science calls for more than quiescent approval of pleasant facts. It demands actual demonstration of spiritual manhood, the Christ ideal, in the destruction of materialism and ignorance and of the sin, lack, sickness, and mortality which accompany these errors. Through the prayers of Christian Scientists a vast number of healings of all kinds have taken place and continue to take place daily. These healings show humanity's progress in the demonstration of perfect God and perfect man, the truths that await the adoption of all mankind.

Worshiping God as Love requires that one express the harmony of Love's nature and the precision of Love's control. Accepting God as All requires that one prove the nothingness of materiality and the powerlessness of evil. Acknowledging man as Love's likeness requires that one manifest perfection at every point. No doubt Christian Science would be more quickly accepted by the world if its demand for proofs of its doctrine were less exacting. But many people are eager to meet these requirements and to leave the physical for the spiritual, the unreal for the real. Many are willing to pay the price of finding their true selfhood in Christ, the true idea of sonship.
