When I first read the Christian Science...

When I first read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, it was to convince my husband that the book contained nothing I could not refute. I was a member of an orthodox church at the time; while he, though brought up in Science, had drifted away from it.

It took me the first six months of our marriage to read the textbook through, and at the end of that time I suffered a bad heart attack. I had been born what is termed a "blue" baby and had suffered from leakage of the heart all my life. When I was six years old our family physician had told me that no doctor could do anything for me but that God could; and so I must pray when an attack occurred. I had always followed his advice as best I knew how and did so during this very severe attack.

A year later my father passed on quite suddenly, and I turned to Christian Science for consolation as my own church offered me none. From this time on, I gradually read and studied more and more. My husband also began an earnest study, and we both became members of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist.
