OVERCOMING BELIEFS OF UNCERTAINTY

"Can eternity end? Can Life die? Can Truth be uncertain? Can Love be less than boundless?" These questions are propounded to the readers by Mary Baker Eddy on page 3 of her book "Pulpit and Press." To Christian Scientists the answer to each is in the negative.

To a great many individuals human existence is filled with uncertainties. Tomorrow poses for them contingencies which they may in prospect either enjoy or fear. One who suffers scarcity may feel uncertain about the continuance of his employment. One who enjoys wealth may fear that some uncertain development will wipe it out. One who has friends may fear their loss; one who is well may fear ill-health or the end of existence.

Uncertainty claims to operate as the result of some cause or law. But Christian Science affirms that God is the only real cause and that which He creates is good only. He does not create uncertainty. That which is of God, Truth, is eternally definite, certain, perfect, and harmonious. Mortal and material concepts alone are uncertain, fallible, imperfect, inharmonious. The real is certain; the unreal is uncertain.
