"RIGHT IS RADICAL"

WHEN the student of Christian Science is fainthearted and tempted to go along with the crowd on some issue, be it great or small, it will help him to remember that our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, was one of the most radical individuals in human history. She was forthright, honest, courageous, even though her views were often unpopular.

A dictionary tells us that the word "radical" means "original; fundamental; reaching to the center or ultimate source." What better word could we use to describe the character of Mrs. Eddy! And yet the word has, through the years, gathered a stigma until a great many people consider it an unfavorable comment.

Our Leader gloried in departing from conformity to materialism. On page 452 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," she states, "Right is radical." And she adds in the same paragraph, "We soil our garments with conservatism, and afterwards we must wash them clean."
