THE DEVELOPMENT OF TRUE POWER
This present age is marked by a rise of material power which is without parallel in human experience. The useful development and right control of this power constitute one of the great challenges of our era. Such development bespeaks the expanding mental horizons and unfolding thought of these times. As human thinking is liberated from the bondage of ignorance, progress in the affairs of men is natural and extends to every field of action.
That which is of real importance to men is, however, not the increasing development of material power; it is the increasing recognition of spiritual power, which underlies all human progress. Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 268): "In the material world, thought has brought to light with great rapidity many useful wonders. With like activity have thought's swift pinions been rising towards the realm of the real, to the spiritual cause of those lower things which give impulse to inquiry." The unfolding of spiritual ideas is the development of true power.
