OBEYING THE LAW OF LOVE

Law is often thought of as some-what cold and impersonal, even harsh and unjust, and its operation in human life does not always appear to be blessing mankind. Yet Christian Science shows us that right here and now there is, in fact, only one law, God's law, which governs the whole universe and is applicable at all times and on all occasions. This law operates to bring harmony into every detail of our experience.

In the face of seeming discord one may ask how this can be the case, or even if it is, how the individual can prove it. Christian Science does not abrogate law. On the contrary it recognizes, in accord with Biblical teaching, the fact, or law, that God is All and that man is made in His image and likeness. Furthermore it teaches that God knows only good for man and that therefore man abides now only in good and is subject only to his Maker. The truth of being is the law of man's life.

Principle is one of the synonyms for God used by Mary Baker Eddy. The more clearly we recognize that divine Principle sustains its idea, man, through divine law, the more in harmony with true law we become; indeed the more harmonious our everyday experience becomes. A synonym often associated in Science with Principle is Love. One governed by Principle reflects at the same time Love's qualities and sees that in the law of Love, Principle, there is nothing cold or unjust.
